Tips and donations
Give readers a simple way to support your work with a one-off payment, without subscribing.
Who can do this: The site owner or an administrator, with Stripe connected (Publisher or Business plan).
Tips are one-off payments. A reader picks an amount, pays at Stripe’s checkout and can leave you a note. They don’t need an account or a subscription, and nothing renews. Tips are a good fit next to paid tiers, or instead of them if you’d rather keep everything free.
1. Set a suggested amount
- Connect Stripe if you haven’t. Tips appear in settings only after that.
- Open Settings → Membership → Tips & donations.
- Enter a Suggested amount and choose the currency next to it. The amount can be up to 10,000.
- Select Save.
The suggested amount is where checkout starts. Readers can change it to give more or less.
2. Share your tip link
Below the amount is a Shareable link: your-name.blogaly.uk/#/portal/support. Select Copy link, or Preview to try it. Put it wherever readers will see it:
- as an item in your site’s navigation, labelled “Support us” or “Leave a tip”;
- as a button at the end of posts or in your newsletter;
- in your social profiles.
What readers see
- The link opens Stripe’s checkout straight away, with your suggested amount filled in and an Add a personal note box.
- They change the amount if they like, enter their card details and pay.
- They come back to your site. Readers who aren’t members see Thank you for your support, with an invitation to sign up.
If tips aren’t available, for example because Stripe was disconnected, readers see this instead:

See who tipped
- Each tip is a payment in your Stripe dashboard, with the reader’s note.
- When the tipper is a member, the tip shows in their activity in Members.
- To get an email for every tip, open your staff profile, go to Email notifications and turn on Tips & donations.
Good to know
- Stripe’s processing fee applies to each tip. Blogaly takes nothing.
- A tip doesn’t give the reader paid access. For that they need a paid tier or a gift subscription.
- Tips are covered by Stripe’s rules on what you can accept payments for. If you’re unsure whether your tips count as donations to a charity, check with Stripe and your accountant.
