Beta features in Labs
Try new features early from Labs: automations, an enhanced Editor role, the inline excerpt, extra payment methods and navigation icons.
Who can do this: The site owner and Administrators.
Labs is where we put features that are ready to use but still settling in. They may change as we learn how people use them. Go to Settings → Advanced → Labs and select Open to see the Beta features tab.

What’s in Labs
| Feature | What it does | Turn off later? |
|---|---|---|
| Automations (beta) | Automated email series for new members. See automations. | No. Once on, it stays on. |
| Enhanced Editor role (beta) | Adds an Editor (beta mode) role that can also manage members and moderate comments. | Yes |
| Show post excerpt inline | Shows the excerpt field just below the post title in the editor, instead of in post settings. | Yes |
| Additional payment methods | Lets paid members pay with methods such as Cash App, iDEAL and Bancontact as well as cards. Needs Stripe connected. See payment methods. | Yes |
| Navigation icons & visibility | Lets you add an icon to each navigation link and choose who sees it: everyone, or only some of public visitors, free members and paid members. Your theme has to support icons for them to appear. | Yes |
| Redirects and Routes | Files that keep old links working and control your site’s address structure. See redirects and routes. | Not a switch |
Switch a feature on or off
- Open Labs and find the feature.
- Select its switch. The change saves straight away; there’s no Save button.
- Some features, such as automations, ask you to confirm first.
About the Enhanced Editor role
With the switch on, the invite dialog and each staff profile offer Editor (beta mode): everything an Editor can do, plus managing members and moderating comments. Existing Editors keep the ordinary role until you change it on their profile. Editors in beta mode still can’t change settings or edit automations. It counts towards your plan’s staff limit like any Editor; see staff and roles.
Good to know
- Beta features are available on every plan, though some need something your plan may not include, such as Stripe for payments.
- If a beta feature doesn’t behave as you expect, tell us. That’s what the beta is for.
- When a feature graduates, it leaves Labs and is simply part of Blogaly. Your settings carry over.
