The short verdict
If you earn from paid subscriptions, Substack’s 10% grows with you. On Blogaly the cost stays flat: the Publisher plan is $35 a month whether members pay you $500 or $3,000, as long as you stay within its 1,000-member cap.
Substack is still a good choice if you’re just starting out and want to publish for free, or if its reader app and recommendations bring you most of your new subscribers.

- You want analytics without cookie banners.
Choose Substack if…
- You’re starting from zero and want to publish for free until you have paying readers.
- You want Substack’s app and recommendations to help readers find you.
- You don’t mind a revenue share in exchange for no monthly bill.
How to switch from Substack
- Export your publication from Substack (Settings → Exports). You get a zip with your posts and a subscriber CSV.
- Upload the zip with the Substack importer in Migration tools; see import your content.
- Upload the subscriber CSV in Members → Import; see import members. Paid subscribers can be linked to their Stripe customers if you use the same Stripe account.
- Coming from a platform without its own importer? Universal import takes JSON exports.
- When everything looks right, connect your custom domain and add redirects if your old post addresses were different.
Questions
What is the best Substack alternative with no revenue share?
Blogaly charges a 0% platform fee on paid subscriptions on every plan. You pay a flat monthly plan (Publisher is $35) and payments go to your own Stripe account; only Stripe’s standard fees apply.
How much would I save by leaving Substack?
Substack keeps 10% of paid subscriptions. At $1,000 a month that’s $100; Blogaly’s Publisher plan is $35. Below $350 a month in paid subscriptions, Substack’s 10% costs less than the Publisher plan.
Can I bring my Substack posts and subscribers?
Yes. Upload your Substack export with the Substack importer for posts, and the subscriber CSV in Members → Import. Paying subscribers can be linked to their Stripe customers if you use the same Stripe account.
Do I lose Substack’s network if I move?
Yes. Blogaly doesn’t have a reader app or recommendations. Your readers come with you through your email list and your own domain.
Can I try it before I move?
Yes. Every plan has a 14-day free trial with no credit card, so you can import a copy of your publication and check it first.
